May in Silicon Valley is pretty hard to beat. The weather is warming up, the Peninsula is in full swing, and there is genuinely something for everyone this month, whether you are a longtime local or just starting to explore the area.
Here are four things worth putting on your calendar.
1. Ye Olde Towne Band at Shoup Park, Los Altos
May 25, free outdoor concert.
Every last Sunday of the month from May through September, Ye Olde Towne Band takes the stage at Shoup Park in Los Altos for a free afternoon of live music, ranging from marches to musicals. Bring a blanket, grab some snacks, and enjoy one of the most relaxed community traditions on the Peninsula.
It is the kind of afternoon that reminds you why people love living here.
2. San Mateo County Fair
Kicks off May 30 at the San Mateo Event Center.
The Peninsula's most beloved annual tradition is back. The San Mateo County Fair opens with the Bayside 101 Music Festival on May 30 and 31, featuring live performances, drone shows, carnival food, and rides. The fair runs through June 8, with something different every day.
If you have never been, this is the year to go. And if you go every year, you already know why it made the list.
3. Pub in the Park, Redwood City
May 31, 11am to 4pm at Red Morton Park.
Red Morton Park hosts craft beer, cider, food trucks, and live bluegrass music in a relaxed outdoor setting. The perfect low-key Saturday afternoon for anyone who wants good food, good music, and fresh air without the crowds of a big festival.
This is one of those hidden-gem local events that feels exactly like what living on the Peninsula is all about.
4. Plug and Play Silicon Valley May Summit, Sunnyvale
May 19 to 21 at Plug and Play Tech Center.
Over 300 startups from 20 industries will be demoing their technologies live at one of Silicon Valley's biggest annual innovation showcases. If you want to feel the pulse of what is being built here right now, this is the room to be in.
It is also a fascinating reminder of why so many people choose to live and work in this region, even with the price tag that comes with it.
This is what May looks like when you live on the Peninsula. Free concerts, county fairs, craft beer in the park, and startup showcases within a 20-minute drive of each other.
